We obsess over software so you don't have to.

ToolsStackHQ started from a simple frustration: every time we needed a new tool, we'd spend hours reading listicles that all recommended the same things — without explaining why one tool fit a specific workflow better than another.

So we started building something different. Instead of ranking tools by popularity, we organize them by role. A freelance graphic designer and an Etsy seller both need "design tools," but they need very different things from those tools. We account for that.

Every recommendation on this site comes from actual research into how people in each role work day to day — what matters most to them, what their budget looks like, and where a great tool can save them real time.

How we pick tools

We start with the role, not the tool

Before looking at any software, we map out what someone in each role actually does day to day. What tasks eat up their time? Where do things fall through the cracks? That context shapes every recommendation.

We weigh real trade-offs

Every tool has strengths and weaknesses. We don't pretend otherwise. If a tool is fantastic but expensive, or free but clunky, we'll tell you — and explain when each trade-off is worth it.

We respect your budget

Most of our audience is freelancers and small business owners. We always include free options, always show real pricing, and never recommend expensive tools where cheaper ones do the job just as well.

We're transparent about affiliates

Some links on this site are affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission if you sign up. This never affects our recommendations — we recommend what's best for the role, period. If a free tool is the right answer, that's what we'll tell you.
